Finger jointed wood box with sliding top stamped Penn Phonograph Co. 19 So. 9th St., Phila,, Pa. Opposite Post Office. Inside wrapped in paper are 2 glass ear pieces. It is not known if these are original to the box or not but it is as found. The box is in VG condition and measures 3.5″long, 2.75″ wide, 2″ tall. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection. The Penn Phonograph Company, located at 19 S. 9th Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a prominent early 20th-century distributor and retailer of early talking machines, specifically specializing in Edison Phonographs and Victor Talking Machines. Operating primarily during the late 1890s through the 1920s, the Penn Phonograph Co. served as both a local retail store for Philadelphia citizens and an officially licensed jobber for Thomas Edison’s National Phonograph Company and later the Victor Talking Machine Company supplying smaller merchants throughout Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.
