The Allen Koenigsberg Phonograph Collection
Lot 3002:
Description
This custom-framed display features original 1877 Scientific American article clippings detailing Thomas Edison’s groundbreaking invention of the “Talking Phonograph.” As an extraordinary piece of technological history, the compilation includes the publication’s iconic masthead alongside full-text columns from the November 17 and December 22, 1877 issues, complete with early schematic woodcuts of the device. The reverse retains a vintage gallery label from the historic Argosy Book Store in New York City and a provenance stamp for noted phonograph historian and author Allen Koenigsberg, adding superb collector pedigree. The prints are safely housed in a golden-brown mat and a simple black wood frame, presenting in very good vintage condition with minor edge wear, light scuffing to the frame molding, and a small tear to the backing paper. H 22.75″, W 18.5″, D .75″ Please see photos for condition. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection.
