Description

This is the Edison prototype phonograph often referred to as the ” Kruesi” model after Edison’s machinist John Kruesi (1843-1899). Edison gave Kruesi a crude sketch of the machine which would soon earn him the title, “Wizard of Menlo Park” on November 29 with a notation to, “Build this”. Kruesi delivered the prototype to Edison on December 6, using parts salvaged from several other experiments. Edison’s first words spoken into and played back from this experimental instrument were from the nursery rhyme,”Mary had a little lamb.” This machine is an older high quality replica made from the Thomas A. Edison Lab drawings of 1929. It is in overall complete and good condition with tarnishing to the brass parts. From the Allen Koenigsberg collection. For shipping purposes measures 16″ wide, 13″ deep, 6″ tall
