Lot 1265:
Description
This Italian Vetterli-Vitali Model 1870/87, manufactured at the Brescia arsenal in 1883, serves as a significant historical display piece illustrating the transition to magazine-fed rifles. Featuring the Vitali box magazine and a walnut stock with a distinct tiger-stripe grain, the rifle is marked with serial number “NP 1672” and a “2522” stock cartouche. The rifle retains its original long-range flip-up sights and barrel bands. Condition is poor for functional use but fair for a relic; the stock has heavy cracking on both sides of the receiver, and the breech has been welded shut, rendering it strictly non-operational and unsafe to fire. While the action is deactivated, the bore interestingly maintains strong rifling. The metal shows heavy patina, oxidation, and significant wear from its historical service and subsequent deactivation. H 5″, W 53″, D 2″. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N NP1672, C&R Eligible.
