Firearms and Ammo Auction
Lot 1250:
Description
This is a classic J. Stevens Maynard Jr. (Model 15) single-shot rifle, manufactured by J. Stevens Arms & Tool Co. in Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts, likely between 1902 and 1915. A quintessential American “boys’ rifle,” it features the iconic tip-up action operated by the under-lever. The octagonal-to-round barrel is clearly stamped with the manufacturer’s mark and the “22-SHORT” caliber designation. The rifle is constructed with a walnut stock and a slender 18-inch barrel, representing a significant era in early 20th-century marksmanship history. The metal surfaces exhibit a heavy, dark patina with visible pitting and oxidation consistent with its age. The walnut stock shows various nicks and scratches, though it retains a smooth, aged finish. The bore is dark with no rifling visible. H 5″, W 32.75″, D 1.5″. Please see photos for overall condition. NSN, C&R Eligible.
