Lot 1192:
Description
The Chinese Type 53 is a 7.62x54mmR bolt-action carbine, manufactured at Factory 296 (Jianshe Arsenal) starting in 1953 and based on the Soviet M44 Mosin-Nagant design. Known for its extensive use in Vietnam, it was a primary infantry weapon for the PLA and Viet Cong. This particular Type 53 was manufactured in February 1955 and has a 20.5-inch barrel, a side-folding bayonet, and a 5-round internal magazine. The bolt displays the Russian Izhevsk Arsenal markings and the receiver markings are clean and crisp. Metal finish is in overall good condition for being 70 years old, showing edge wear and finish lose. Wood stock is in field use condition, with dings and scratches, but is solid with no cracks. The original serial number is stamped on the stock, which matches the receiver. Bore needs a good cleaning and shows some freckling. Rifling is strong but rounding. Mechanically, the action and trigger are tight and appear to function properly. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: T53021546. C&R Eligible.
