The Frank Rider Collection - Spring Classic Part 1 - Day 2
Lot 1065b:
Description
This is an exceptionally rare find for any serious film historian or collector of early arcade or cinema memorabilia: an original Mutoscope reel for the 1925 Warner Brothers classic Hogan’s Alley, directed by Roy Del Ruth. These vintage flip-card reels were the heart of the Mutoscope “peep show” machines found in penny arcades throughout the early 20th century. The reel itself features the heavy-duty, industrial-grade metal construction typical of the era, marked as manufactured by the Oster Auto-Reel Co. of New York City. The reel remains in a well-preserved state, showing the expected patina and minor surface wear consistent with a century of storage, but no structural damage that would compromise its mechanical integrity. The original paper cards are tightly bound and appear consistent with age-related toning, offering a genuine glimpse into the mechanical amusement era. H 10.5″, W 10.5″, D 3″ Please see photos for condition.
