This exquisite leather-bound autograph album, titled “AUTOGRAPHS” in gold gilt, represents a premier piece of American history from the immediate post-Civil War era. The inscription reveals it was presented to “Miss Mollie E. Heckerman” on July 18, 1866, by her “Affectionate Lover, Will”. This personal gift serves as a remarkably curated ledger of the most significant figures of the age. The album contains cut signatures and titles for legendary Union military leaders including General Ulysses S. Grant, William Tecumseh Sherman, and Philip Sheridan.
