Lot 1245:
Description
This exceptional and remarkably rare full-color lithograph poster, titled “KRIEGSRORDEN DES HEERES und Waffenabzeichen des Heeres,” serves as a comprehensive visual guide to the combat awards and insignia of the German Army. Printed by “Erdmenger & Co. – Berlin” and dated May 1, 1944, it features high-quality renderings of the Knight’s Cross (including Oak Leaves, Swords, and Diamonds), Tank Assault Badges, Infantry Assault Badges, campaign shields (like Krim and Kuban), and cuff bands for Kreta and Afrika. From a collector’s perspective, this is a phenomenal survivor, as ephemeral paper items of this size and detail were rarely preserved in such complete condition. The piece shows signs of its history, having been folded many times since 1944; there are visible fold lines, some small holes, and tape repairs to the seams on the reverse side. The paper is somewhat fragile with edge wear, yet the graphics remain vibrant and the vast majority of the paper is present, making it a prime candidate for archival framing. H 35″, W 32.5″
