Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1553:
Description
Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction. This is a substantial Neoclassical style architectural ceiling fixture, likely dating from the mid-20th century. The piece features a classic “wedding cake” or tiered dome profile, heavily ornamented with a Greek Key (Meander) border and deep gadrooned ribbing. It is constructed of cast gesso or plaster over a metal frame, a traditional technique that allows for the crisp, high-relief detailing seen here. The finish shows remnants of elegant gold leaf gilding over a cream-colored base. The fixture consists of two main parts: the large decorative dome and a separate matching ceiling mount base. It retains its internal four-socket cluster, though the wiring is vintage and brittle. Structurally, the piece is solid, but the gesso surface shows significant character-building wear, including scattered chips, cracks, surface abrasions, and areas of loss to the gilding and white finish. The internal metal components show surface oxidation, and the electrical system is currently non-functional and requires professional rewiring. H 16″, W 32″, D 32″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
