Lot 1497:
Description
This commanding 48-inch depiction of Shiva Nataraja, the “Lord of the Dance,” is a classic mid-to-late 20th-century decorative work. Executed in a cast composite resin with a hollow interior, the piece mimics the weight and presence of traditional temple bronzes without the extreme heaviness. It features a dual-tone finish, with a deep matte black body contrasted by hand-painted antiqued gold leaf accents on the prabha (flaming halo), jewelry, and crown. Shiva is shown in the Anandatandava pose, dancing atop the dwarf Apasmara, symbolizing the triumph over ignorance. The intricate relief work and grand scale suggest this was likely produced for a high-end gallery or architectural decor market, possibly from a specialized maker like those found in the North Indian or Southeast Asian export trade. The statue is in good physical condition; however, there are visible surface scuffs, some thinning of the gold finish on the leading edges of the halo, and minor dust accumulation in the deeper recesses of the casting. Measurements: H 48″, W 42″, D 13″ (Base: W 24″, D 16″). Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal.
