This exquisite piece of mid-century Asian needlework showcases a pair of long-tailed birds perched amongst pine branches, a classic motif symbolizing longevity and steadfastness. The embroidery is executed on a cream-colored fabric ground, featuring traditional calligraphic inscriptions. It is housed in an elaborate “lattice” or “fretwork” wooden frame that incorporates auspicious geometric patterns, typical of Chinese or Japanese-inspired export decor from the mid-20th century.
