Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1472:
Description
This striking piece of Mid-Century Modern Chinoiserie features a vertical composition of bamboo stalks and two sparrows, rendered in a traditional ink-and-wash style on a textile or paper backing. The artwork is housed in a sophisticated tiered wooden frame, highlighted by intricate fretwork panels on the sides and top/bottom that evoke classic Chinese “cracked ice” or lattice motifs. Pieces like this were highly popular in the 1960s and 70s as Western homeowners embraced Hollywood Regency and Far East-inspired decor. The frame appears to be a stained hardwood with a warm, teak-like finish. Culturally, the presence of calligraphic characters suggests a theme of nature or season. The item is in good vintage condition, showing some minor scuffs on the frame edges and light aging to the background material consistent with its era. Dimensions: 30″x41″x1.5″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
