Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1459:
Description
These heavy, thick-walled cast iron specimens are consistent with fragments from exploded Civil War-era hollow-core cannonballs, such as 24-pounder or 32-pounder spherical shells. The deep rust-orange oxidation and pitted, “dimpled” exterior surfaces are characteristic of iron that has been buried or exposed to the elements for over a century, while the concave interior curves reflect the hollow explosive cavity of the original projectile. These relics represent the raw, destructive power of 19th-century artillery, likely manufactured at a major Union or Confederate foundry like Tredegar or West Point. The fragments are in excavated, “as-found” condition with heavy surface corrosion, flaking iron oxide, and jagged, irregular edges from the original detonation; the largest piece measures approximately H 7″, W 10″, D 5″.
H 7″, W 10″, D 5″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
