Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1314:
Description
This charming “Budai” or Laughing Buddha figure, captured in a seated position, reflects a popular mid-20th-century folk-art style likely of Chinese or East Asian origin. The piece is crafted from heavy ceramic or composite plaster, featuring a distinctive two-tone finish with a metallic cobalt blue robe that contrasts against the matte, stone-colored flesh of the deity. He is depicted with traditional symbolic attributes: a strand of prayer beads (mala) in his right hand and a “pearl of wisdom” or begging bowl in his left, seated atop a textured, rock-like base. The joyful expression and elongated earlobes are classic hallmarks of this figure, symbolizing prosperity and contentment. Overall condition appears fair to good; there are visible surface scuffs, some minor paint loss on the high points of the robe and feet, and a slight accumulation of dust in the recessed textures, consistent with age and display. H 16″, W 10″, D 10″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
