Hollywood Blvd Cinema Memorabilia
Lot 1311:
Description
This impressive piece is a classic Chinese “Shishi” (Guardian Lion) or “Taotie” door knocker, cast in heavy brass with a rich, aged patina. The central mask features the fierce, bulging eyes and stylized curls typical of Qing Dynasty revival styles, intended to ward off evil spirits. It is mounted on a decorative quatrefoil backplate featuring auspicious “Fu” (Fortune) and “Ji” (Luck) characters in relief. While likely a high-quality mid-20th-century decorative casting rather than an ancient relic, the craftsmanship is substantial. The brass shows age-appropriate oxidation, surface grime in the recessed areas, and minor scuffing, but remains structurally sound with a functional 6-inch diameter ring. H 12″, W 12″, D 2″. Please use photos to judge condition and bid accordingly. Please note: Buyer is responsible for removal. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinemas Collection.
