Description
This stunning Tibetan Thangka depicts a multi-armed deity, likely a form of Avalokiteshvara (Chenrezig), seated upon a lotus throne and surrounded by a celestial mandorla. The central figure is flanked by smaller buddhas or deities in the upper corners and four seated practitioners or disciples at the base. The piece is executed in the traditional style with hand-painted pigments on a textile substrate, professionally mounted within a heavy, dark silk brocade border featuring ornate gold-threaded floral and “shou” longevity motifs. The age appears to be 19th to early 20th century, though the delicate pigments show significant wear. The piece exhibits notable condition issues consistent with age and devotional use, including heavy surface abrasions, pigment loss across the central figure, creasing to the silk, and overall fading of the imagery.
