Description
Opened as Grauman’s Chinese Theater in 1927, it is known as the iconic theater in Hollywood with “over the top” Chinese architecture, famous movie premieres, hand and foot prints of legendary movie stars set in concrete, and host of the Academy Awards in 1945, 46, and 47. The Chinese Theater is ubiquitous with Hollywood. The theater changed hands several times over the years with owners including Ted Mann in 1973 who renamed it Mann’s Chinese Theater, and a Warner Bros. / Paramount partnership in 2000. In 2002 the theater underwent a major restoration, returning it to as near original in appearance as possible. This neon sign was one of 2 “Chinese” neons that were mounted on the exterior of the left and right wings of the theater. This neon is from the right wing. It was removed during the 2002 renovation and sold with other architectural elements to the Hollywood Blvd Cinema in Woodridge IL which was undergoing a major expansion adding a new lobby and several more auditoriums. It is in good overall condition with untested neon and measures 30′ wide X 6′ tall. From the Hollywood Blvd. Cinema collection.
