Description

Beautiful mahogany case grandfather clock made by Robert Davies & Son of 30 High Street, Blaenau Ffestiniog, Gwynedd, Wales. Born 1821, into a wealthy land-owning family in Caernarfon, Wales, Robert Davies served his horological apprenticeship under Arthur Bryers, of Eastgate Street Row, Chester.
By 1841, Davies had set-up his own watch making business in Blaenau Ffestiniog and by 1871, had been joined by his son Richard Joseph Davies. Hence the business became known as ‘Robert Davies & Son. The beautiful mahogany case with flame grain panels is in exceptional condition with an older professional refinish and features twist columns on both front sides and a arched scroll pediment on the bonnet. The hand painted face and dial depicts an elderly gentleman in robes and sandals seated near a stream. Two cast iron weights drive the time and date dial with the clock striking on the hour. Measures 90″ tall, 24″ wide, 11″ deep. Runs intermittently, will need servicing.
