A Classic Opulence and General Antiques Auction ONLINE ONLY
Lot 129:
Description
This is an exceptional example of an Arts and Crafts/Mission style grandfather or tall case clock, likely constructed of quarter-sawn oak. The aesthetic is classic Gustav Stickley-era with its straight lines, exposed joinery, and vertical, slatted open case. The face features bronze-tone Arabic numerals and hands on a wooden dial. The open case reveals the chain-driven weight movement, which features two prominent wooden block weights and a pendulum, characteristic of a clock meant to be wound daily. Given its height, this piece would have been a substantial, fashionable furnishing for an early 20th-century home. The clock appears to be in nice, operational condition, exhibiting a desirable, rich, dark patina consistent with age and use. There are no immediate signs of major structural damage, though the finish shows minor scuffs and wear typical of a piece this vintage. H 74″, W 17″, D 13″. Note: Pickup/Transport required. Contacts available post auction.
