Description
Vintage Trapper Fur & Leather Mitts
Pair of vintage trapper or cold-weather mittens (mitts), likely dating to the early-to-mid 20th century, consistent with utilitarian cold-weather gear from the northern United States or Canada. The outer shell is constructed from real animal fur—possibly cowhide or a similar animal with a reddish-brown coat—providing superior insulation, a classic feature of rugged, traditional winter wear. The palms and thumb areas are finished in a contrasting dark leather, which is a common design to provide durability and grip. The interior is lined with a plaid woolen or flannel fabric, showing a distinctive brown, tan, and dark blue striped pattern, and features an internal material baffle for comfort. The mitts are in good overall vintage condition; there is visible wear, darkening, and slight dirt/staining on the leather palms, and the fur shows slight compaction and general use consistent with their age and intended use. The fabric cuff edge shows some fraying and wear, but the structure remains intact except at seam where the thumb meets the palm on right mitten. Dimensions for each: H 15″, W 8”. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
