Lot 1466:
Description
Vintage Gold Panning Pan & Saddlebags
This fascinating lot transports you straight to the American frontier, a true reflection of the Gold Rush or early pioneering days. Included is a large, classic gold panning pan, appearing to be made of heavy cast iron or thick steel, alongside a pair of vintage leather saddlebags. The saddlebags have a rich, dark brown patina, are likely made of thick cowhide, and feature a classic double-pouch design with a brass closure stud on one flap. The pan, with its deep bowl and approximate 16-inch diameter, is a quintessential piece of mining equipment. The saddlebags, with their sturdy construction, would have been indispensable for a prospector or traveler carrying provisions or small finds. Condition Assessment: The panning pan shows significant, deep rust and heavy pitting across all surfaces, consistent with age, exposure, and its intended use. The metal also shows some warping or unevenness around the rim. The leather saddlebags are in good overall vintage condition, showing wear, scuffs, and creasing appropriate for their age, but the stitching and straps appear mostly intact. The leather has a beautiful, aged patina. H 3″, W 16″, D 16″ (Pan); H 13″, W 14″, D 4″ (Saddlebags, combined). From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town.
