Description
These are great pieces of Tobacciana and saloon history! The lot comprises three large metal spittoons and a collection of four vintage lithographed tobacco tins. Two of the spittoons are made of a copper alloy and the remaining spittoon is cast iron featuring a vibrant dark red-brown painted finish with gold striping and a striking white enameled/porcelain funnel insert. The other two spittoons display a deep aged patina consistent with copper that has oxidized over time, showcasing a classic flared-rim design common in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. The tobacco tins are a great representation of early American lithography and branding, including the Harry Weissinger Tob. Co. “Three States Mixture” tin (Kentucky, Virginia, Louisiana), the distinctive J.G. Dill’s “Best Cube Cut Plug” tin from Richmond, VA, and two different blue and silver tins from Larus & Bro. Co. “Edgeworth” (pipe and smoking tobacoo), also from Richmond, VA. The metal spittoons exhibit surface wear, patina, and slight chipping on the painted/enameled surface, which adds to their authenticity and rustic charm.
