Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1408:
Description
This is a fantastic example of an American-made calendar clock, specifically a ‘Regulator’ model, likely from the Seth Thomas Clock Co. or a similar period manufacturer like Terry or Atkins, given the visible patent dates and the overall style. The calendar dial, which prominently features a Saturday, April 15 date setting, is noted in an included placard as being set to the day and time of President Lincoln’s death in 1865. The clock is a wall-hanging model crafted from a dark-stained wood, likely walnut or mahogany, in a classic rectangular case with an architectural pediment top. The face features Roman numerals for the time regulator, and the lower calendar dial has Arabic numerals for the date and day/month windows. A close-up reveals the calendar dial has markings for the “Seth Thomas Clock Co.” of Thomaston, Connecticut, and patent dates including March 1862, confirming it as an authentic Civil War era piece. The overall condition is good for its age, with an appealing dark patina and some expected surface wear, particularly to the wood case edges and minor distress and discoloration to the paper calendar dial. The back of the case is a simple, dark-stained wooden panel secured with screws, and the side view shows a lock for internal access. The stated dimensions provided indicate a substantial and impressive wall piece. No key included with clock, but can be sourced. H 42.75″, W 19″, D 7″. From the Western display in Donley’s Wild West Town. NOTE: Pickup/transport required. Contacts available post auction.
