Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1245:
Description
A remarkable example of an Arts and Crafts movement low bookcase or cabinet, likely dating to the early 20th century, specifically identifiable as a piece by the Limbert Furniture Company, based in Grand Rapids and Holland, Michigan, as indicated by the clear “Limberts Arts & Crafts Furniture” brand stamp featuring the man with the chair. Crafted from beautiful quartersawn oak, the cabinet exhibits the classic straight lines, exposed tenon joinery (visible as rectangular pegs on the sides and base), and deep fumed or stained finish characteristic of the style. It features two glazed doors with simple brass or patinated metal latches and a shallow gallery rail across the top. The interior features a central divider and peg holes for adjustable shelving (6 shelves in all). The overall condition is good vintage, showing expected wear commensurate with age, including surface scratches, some finish loss, and minor scuffing on the feet and bottom edges, particularly on the interior base which appears slightly darker or soiled. The hardware appears original and suitably aged. H 50″, W 38″, D 14′.
