Old West & Native American Auction
Lot 1239:
Description
This is a monumental full mount American Bison (Buffalo), a classic piece of Western Americana taxidermy. Likely dating to the mid-20th century or earlier, this impressive specimen features the animal’s signature dark, shaggy wool on the head, neck, and forequarters, transitioning to the lighter, shorter coat on the rear. The head is well-posed, displaying its short, dark horns. This piece is mounted on a large, shaped platform base intended to simulate natural rock or earth, making it an imposing display item ideal for a lodge, museum, or trophy room. The condition is good; the coat appears mostly intact with expected patina, minor hair loss and wear consistent with age and display. The hooves show minor flaking on the edges of the hooves, which is common in older mounts. The base shows typical scuffing and minor finish wear. The overall presence is strong, retaining its impressive scale. From Donley’s Wild West Town Museum. H 6′, L 9’, W 3′
