Description

This Papago basket crafted around the 1960s exemplifies the traditional artistry of the Tohono O’odham (formerly known as Papago) people of the Sonoran Desert. The basket features a tightly coiled weave, hallmark of Papago basketry, using natural materials such as bare grass or cattail for the light-colored foundation, and devil’s claw for the contrasting dark geometric designs. The design incorporates a classic step-pattern a common motif in Papago weaving. Although the basket is in good condition there is some discoloration from wear or handling visible. Dimensions: 6.5” diameter x 4.25” tall. Please see photos.
