Description
Mid-20th century Navajo Storm Pattern blanket/rug. Design features a central rectangular motif traditionally interpreted as a Hogan or the center of the universe rendered in bold red, black, cream and white. The characteristic geometric corner elements possibly representing natural forces radiate inwards and are connected to the central design by dynamic diagonal lightning lines the rug boasts a palette of black/dark indigo Gray and vibrant red contrasted by cream off white accents. Finished with a defined dark border hand woven with a tight weave this piece exhibits the unique artistry and traditional symbolism of Navajo textile traditions. Overall condition is good, with three repairable areas exhibiting wear through in the central area of the design, as well as on its edge. One spot is approximately 1” diameter and the other two approximately 2.25” diameter. Dimensions: 52” x48”. See photos.
