Description
This Hopi polychrome Peaky bowl circa 1970s features a traditional design with modern flair. The bowl is hand coiled and traditionally fired. The interior of the bowl features an avian design and black and red on a white slip background. The bird possibly represents a mythical or clan related figure. It features The exterior of the bowl is a warm red and features a series of geometric patterns on the rim of the bowl approximately 1.5 inches in width around the entire perimeter. There is a signature (illegible) at the base. There is a hairline crack in the bowl above the birds head meandering down towards the wing. This crack is also visible on the exterior of the bowl. There are also several small chips in the surface of the bowl that have been inpainted with red to diminish their visibility. Overall, a very striking bowl. Dimensions: 10” diameter x 3.5” tall.
