Description
This beautiful Northern Plains pipe, carved from sacred red Catlinite revered by the plains and woodland tribes alike, features an effigy bowl depicting a woman seated with her legs outstretched while she works an object on her lap. Her long hair is braided down her back reaching to the ground. The decoration on her person is different on either side of the pipe. The coloration of the piece is also variable possibly suggesting handling over years of use. The stem itself is free of decoration, save the alternating block elements, giving it depth. The pipe stem can be separated for storage and the connecting piece and mouthpiece are both made of wood. Overall in good condition, commensurate with age. Dimensions: 17” long x 1.25” wide overall. Pipe effigy: 3.75” tall x 4.75” long, 6.5” w/wood stem insert. Stem11.25” long. 12.25” w/mouthpiece. See photos.
