Paiute beaded basket circa 1960s. This represents a fine example of Native American artistry. The basket is constructed with a coiled interior typical of Paiute basketry and is fully covered in intricate beadwork using small glass seed beads. The beadwork features geometric shapes in a variety of colors including white, blue, orange, black, red and green set against a white background. This creates a visual appealing design and circling the entire basket. This basket reflects the traditional craftsmanship combining functional weaving with decorative beadwork. The use of glass trade beads introduced by European settlers has become a characteristic element in Paiute basketry. The beadwork has suffered some damage on one side of the widest part of about 1.5” in length. Dimensions: 3.5” wide x 1.75” tall with opening diameter of 2.25”. base diameter is 1.5”.
