Lot 1012:
Description
Navajo blanket/rug dating from the 1970s features a design with repeating geometric motifs in shades of brown on a cream background. The pattern consists primarily of vertical columns of zigzag lines representing lightning bolts flanked by rectangular blocks at the top and bottom. Small diamond shapes are interspersed within the design. The blanket/rug is hand -woven, likely wool, and exhibits a tight weave. Knotted in corners. The color palette is natural with brown likely derived from natural dyes. It is in fair to good condition with wear consistent with age. There is a darkened spot on the piece, near a corner, as well as other small stains from use. It represents a classical example of Navajo weaving, showcasing craftsmanship and the aesthetic prevalent in the 1970s. Dimensions: 54.5” long x 31” wide. See photos.
