Description

This fascinating group lot brings together three distinct pieces of early American cast iron, each with its own history. The standout is the heavy, figural novelty clock stand, featuring a monkey with his arm around a parrot perched on a branch. The perch is marked: “Polly Wants Cherry Drips”. The back is marked: “DESIGN PAT APLD FOR” This was part of a larger Bauer Bros. CO Chicago clock. The monkey arm loops around what would hold a clock mechanism. There is no remnants of original paint on the piece. The lot also includes a classic, heavy antique cast iron duck shooting gallery target, likely a knockdown style from an early 1900s carnival, and a substantial antique cast iron mortar and pestle, a primitive apothecary or kitchen tool. The condition is characteristic of true vintage Americana. The duck target has a deep, all-over rusty patina consistent with decades of outdoor use and impact marks. The mortar and pestle set are solid with a rough-cast finish and a rich, dark patina, showing minor expected wear to the rim. All items are structurally sound with no visible breaks or repairs. H 8.5″, W 10″, D 1″ (Clock Stand); H 7″, W 7.5″, D 7.5″ (Mortar bowl). Pestle 12” long; H 4.25″, W 5″, D .5″ (Duck Target). Please see photos.
