Description

This is a fantastic piece of early 20th-century industrial lighting: a Curtis Lighting “X-Ray” Reflector Shade, manufactured by Curtis Lighting, Inc. of Chicago, USA. The shade is a classic clam-shell or dome shape, executed in what appears to be enameled or coated metal (likely steel) with an exterior finish of a deep hunter green and an interior surface meant for maximum reflectivity, possibly silvered or a reflective white/clear glass liner, though the reflective liner itself is not fully visible in the pictures provided, only the texture and socket holder. The distinctive feature is the highly ribbed or corrugated texture on the surface, which is characteristic of the patented X-Ray reflector technology designed to control and intensify light output. The shade retains its original cast iron or heavy metal spider fitter/socket holder which shows deep, heavy patination, as expected from an industrial piece of this era, patented 1928. The exterior green enamel is in remarkably good condition for its age, showing only light surface wear consistent with use. Crucially, the original Curtis “X-Ray” decal is present and largely intact, clearly identifying the maker and model number “No. 410″ and providing cleaning instructions, though the decal itself shows wear, creasing, and chipping around the edges. There are no apparent cracks or major dents in the main body of the shade. Included items are the green reflector shade and the affixed metal fitter/socket holder. H 8.5″, W 9.5″, D 9.5”.
