Description

These three vintage porcelain enamel shades are a great find, particularly as a matching set. They feature the classic “barn light” or “factory dome” style, likely dating from the mid-20th century (1940s-1960s). The material is heavy-gauge steel finished with a brilliant deep green exterior porcelain enamel and a highly reflective white interior, a standard for maximizing light output in industrial settings. Each shade is topped with a heavy, threaded cast aluminum fitter collar, designed for easy mounting to conduit or a stem. The fitter on one shade is visibly marked “IVANHOE,” which was a division of The Miller Company (Meriden, CT), a major player in industrial lighting. The Ivanhoe brand is desirable for its quality and historical significance. The shades show heavy, consistent industrial wear, including significant chipping to the enamel on the lip and around the fitter necks, exposing the metal beneath. The white interior enamel shows crazing and some minor chips and rust spots. The cast aluminum fitters have a heavy patina and oxidation, and the brass threaded inserts show rust and verdigris consistent with age and use. All three shades are remarkably similar in condition and patina, making them perfect for a restoration project or for use as-is in a rustic industrial decor. H 10″, W 10″, D 10″
