October Fall Classic
Lot 1314:
Description
This is an exceptional collection of Pennsylvania Railroad (PRR) historical documents and employee materials, primarily dating from the 1940s through the 1960s, representing a golden era of American railroading. The lot includes various stock certificates (specifically identified by you and visible in the images as Four, Ten nd Twenty shares at $50 each certificates issued circa late 1940’s, made of printed paper with a distinctive orange/tan border). Also included is a rich assortment of rulebooks, manuals, and instructional pamphlets. Key items visible are the “Book of Rules,” “Telegraphic Code,” manuals for Brake and Train Air Signal Instructions, and Maintenance of Way Equipment, as well as employee guides like “Safety Rules,” “RAILROAD EMPLOYEES! KNOW YOUR RIGHTS,” and copies of the “Pennsylvania Railroad” magazine/brochure (e.g., “Transportation Progress 1946”). The collection is further enhanced by material from other railroad companies, specifically a Santa Fe Railway “Chief Way” postcard/pamphlet and, according to your additional input, Amtrak material (though not clearly visible in the images, it is included in the lot description). The materials are printed on paper and cardstock, reflecting typical mid-century printing methods. The overall condition is Good to Very Good for its age; the paper materials exhibit expected signs of use and wear, including some yellowing, minor tears, pencil/pen inscriptions (like “Harold Hirschman” on one manual), and staple holes. The stock certificates show folds and some slight edge wear and staining but are largely intact and legible. H 11″, W 8.5″ (Based on the stock certificate, which is the largest single flat item).
