Description
This is a stunning set of architectural salvage comprising a decorative wrought or cast iron gate and four tall cast iron fence posts . The aesthetic is classically Victorian Gothic Revival with intricate quatrefoil and trefoil designs on the posts, mimicking cathedral tracery, and elegant scrollwork on the top gate panel, centered by a fleur-de-lis finial. These pieces are likely from the late 19th or early 20th century and would have been part of a substantial estate fence or garden enclosure. The overall composition suggests quality craftsmanship typical of the period. All items are constructed of iron (likely cast iron for the posts, possibly wrought iron for the gate). The condition is good antique/salvage, showing heavy, desirable surface rust and patina with significant remnants of original white/light-colored paint, which is flaking and worn. There are visible attachment points, hinges, and one latch mechanism on the posts and gate, which is consistent with their original function, and some minor bends/warping in the thinner gate bars. The 4 posts have square, solid base plates for anchoring. H 62″, W 36″, D 5″.
