October Fall Classic
Lot 1262:
Description
Beautiful example of a bronze fountain head, expertly executed using the traditional lost wax method. This classic “Putto with Frog” motif is highly desirable, with the design often associated with the celebrated American sculptor Edith Barretto Stevens Parsons, although this particular casting does not bear a visible signature in the photos. The material is heavy, solid cast bronze, as specified, which aligns with the non-magnetic observation and the subtle green-brown patina suggests significant age and outdoor use. The figure of the child (putto) is finely detailed, kneeling on a rock-form base and gently holding a frog, which acts as the spitter with a visible pipe opening at its mouth. This size—at just over 20 inches—makes it an ideal centerpiece for a small pond, pedestal fountain, or even as an interior decorative object. The condition is excellent, boasting a naturally aged and deep patina that adds character and depth. There are no chips or cracks, only the lovely surface wear that collectors covet in genuine outdoor bronze. H 20.5″, W 7″, D 7″
