Description

What a fantastic set of classic ’50s automotive trim! This collection is a mid-century space-age dream, showcasing the design flair of the Jet Age. Included are three distinct sets of chrome-plated die-cast metal emblems and ornaments, likely from the late 1940s through the late 1950s. The centerpiece appears to be a large, horizontal emblem clearly marked with the stylized word “HORNET,” which is part of the trim from a Hudson Hornet, famed for its performance and sleek design, likely from the early to mid-1950s. This piece is a strong representation of the era’s focus on speed and aviation-inspired lines. Also included is a pair of long, pointed hood ornaments, often referred to as “gun sight” ornaments, with a distinct circular ring, characteristic of 1950s Buick models, adding to the period’s aviation theme. The third pair consists of smaller, standalone chrome rockets with swept-back fins and stacked rings at the base, from the hood of a 1957 Chevrolet Bel Air. All pieces exhibit significant visible wear, pitting, oxidation, and loss of chrome plating consistent with decades of outdoor exposure and age. The “HORNET” emblem, the pair of rockets, and the gun sight ornaments all show surface corrosion and grime. Some pieces, like the gun sight ornaments, have attached mounting brackets or fasteners that show heavy rust. Tip of one of the Buick base is broken off. Overall, the items are in fair-to-poor condition, but still highly collectible as original parts. 1950’s Hudson Hornet hood rockets L&R on aluminum mount: 14″ long, 4″ tall, 4.5″ wide. Pair of 1957 Chevy Bel Air hood rockets: Each 6.5″ long, 4.25″ tall, 2.75″ wide. Pair of 1950s Buick gun sight hood ornaments: 16″ long, 3.75″ tall, 3″ wide. See photos.
