Description

Fantastic petroliana two-piece lot from the highly regarded Buckeye Iron & Brass Works of Dayton, Ohio. This lot perfectly illustrates the evolution of the service station nozzle. The first is a classic, heavy-duty Buckeye Fig. 800 automatic nozzle, typically constructed from solid brass for durability. The “800” series was a staple from the 1930s to 1940s, known for its robust design and the iconic lever-lock mechanism. The second piece is the Buckeye Opaco Fig. 820 nozzle, a model often made of cast aluminum or pot metal, which became common during or shortly after the WWII era, as evidenced by the Pat. No. 2320033 which dates to 1943. The Fig. 820 was a lighter, more streamlined auto-shutoff design. The brass 800 has a rich, untouched bronze patina and is in very good, used condition with the expected light surface wear and minor dings. The white metal 820 is heavily weathered and oxidized, showing the typical degradation of its alloy, with a prominent white/gray scaling, but all original markings are clear. Both pieces are excellent, authentic display items for a vintage gas station or industrial collection. Approx dimensions for each H 14″, W 6″, D 2″ Please see photos.
