Description

This is a fantastic vintage gas station display oil bottle carrier set, likely dating to the 1930s or 1940s, a true piece of early automotive service history. The carrier is a classic wire caddy design, holding four oil bottles/cans, featuring a strong wire handle with a distinctive spiraled spring-steel grip, a detail common to period carriers. Included in the carrier are two clear glass “Liquid Quart” oil bottles with embossed markings reading “MASS 9.0.40.4 B” and “USA” indicating they were regulated for volume, complete with two rusty, conical metal spout tops. Four metal spouts in all. Also included are six full or partially full quart oil cans, including four Quaker State Motor Oil cans, one Sinclair Opaline Motor Oil can, and one Johnson Motor Oil can, all period advertising pieces. The entire assembly shows significant age and patina, which is desirable to collectors: the wire carrier is rusty and dusty but structurally sound; the glass bottles are dirty inside with heavy grime and scuffing, but no chips or cracks are visible; the metal spouts are heavily rusted; and the cans exhibit extensive surface rust, paint fading, and scuffing, though the graphics are still largely legible, adding to their authentic vintage appeal. This piece tells a great story and would be a centerpiece in any automobilia collection. Dimensions of the grouping: H 16″, W 17.5, D 9”
