October Fall Classic
Lot 1173a:
Description
A fantastic lot of two typewriters that beautifully illustrates the evolution of the machine. First is a rare and historically significant Hammond No. 1 index typewriter, a design dating to the turn of the 20th century. With its unusual curved keyboard and intricate mechanism, it represents an important early chapter in typewriter history and comes with its original wooden case and partial paper instructions. In overall VG condition. Works but needs a good cleaning. Serial No. 1066. Cover present but joints are separating and need re gluing. The second machine is a classic portable from a later era, a Remington Remette from the late 1930s-40s, housed in its original travel case. Both machines are in vintage, as-is condition. The Remington is in better cosmetic shape but its case shows heavy wear, particularly on the handle and latches. Hammond: H 7″, W 12″, D 12″. Remington: H 6″, W 13″, D 14″.
