October Fall Classic
Lot 1141:
Description
This is a fantastic vintage double-sided porcelain enamel sign for a “Barber Shop,” featuring the classic patriotic colors often associated with the trade, reminiscent of a barber pole motif. The sign has a bold, horizontally rectangular format with a dark blue field framed by a wide border of alternating white and bright orange-red chevron stripes, giving it a high-visibility, graphic punch. The central text “BARBER SHOP” is in crisp white lettering, stacked with “BARBER” above “SHOP.” The style suggests a mid-20th-century piece designed to be mounted outdoors. The condition is good for an old outdoor sign, displaying visible surface wear, scratches, small chips to the porcelain (particularly around the edges and mounting holes), and areas of rust and enamel loss, most notably a large chip in the lower left section. The reverse is a plain, dark gray/blue color with significant surface scratching and vertical rust staining. The mounting holes in the four corners are present but show wear and some rust. H 9″, W 28″.
