Description

This is a fantastic piece of 1940s-1950s American advertising history, a vibrant color print promoting Pond Lilly Evaporated Milk and Campbell’s Condensed Tomato Soup using the likenesses of the immensely popular radio show characters, Amos ‘n’ Andy. The image features cartoon illustrations of “Amos” and “Andy” wearing chef hats and speaking into microphones marked “NBC,” which heavily ties the grocery store advertising directly to the show’s widespread appeal. The striking blue, yellow, and red color palette is classic mid-century lithography. The print advertises a Depression/WWII era price of 4 tall cans of milk for 25 cents. These posters were often displayed in grocery store windows or interior aisles. The print appears to be a vintage original mounted in a modern thin metal frame with glass. The piece is in good overall condition for its age, with a few visible white speck marks and some mild creasing/fold lines near the center, which are common for mass-produced paper advertisements of this era.
