October Fall Classic
Lot 1119a:
Description
A captivating pair of Sparklets soda siphons, confirmed by the user’s input to be Made in Czechoslovakia, and likely dating from the mid-20th century, showcases the classic design favored in bars and homes for dispensing carbonated water. The clear glass bottles are encased in their signature metal mesh wire webbing—a crucial safety feature designed to contain potential shards if the pressurized glass were to break. The siphons are topped with chromed metal heads, one of which retains its original metal cap attached by a small chain. The brand name “SPARKLETS” and “REG U.S. PAT. OFF.” is visible on the metal collar. The presence of the “Made in Czechoslovakia” marking on the base (not visible in the photographs) is common for Sparklets siphons imported into the US, despite the “SPARKLETS CORPORATION” and “NEW YORK, U.S.A.” stamp visible on one filler valve. A subtle red accent band is visible around the middle of the glass bottle beneath the mesh. The condition is commensurate with age and use, exhibiting wear and tarnish to the chrome plated heads, including some light pitting and surface scratches. The glass appears intact on both, and the mesh is largely complete with minor bends and expected oxidization to the wire. The pieces present well as a classic decorative pair. H 13.25″, W 4.25″, D 4.25″.
