Description

A fantastic trio of antique seltzer bottles, often called syphons or soda siphons, originating from Czechoslovakia, a renowned center for glassware. These items hail from the early to mid-20th century, a time when having sparkling water on hand for cocktails and refreshment was a must. Each features a thick glass bottle encased in a protective metal wire mesh—two with a diamond/waffle pattern and one with a tighter, all-over chainmail pattern. The metal mesh was a safety precaution against the high internal pressure of the carbonated water, a common feature in vintage siphons. The bottle on the left has a bare aluminum-style metal top, the center has a contrasting black plastic or Bakelite top with a chrome lever, and the right has a fully chromed metal top with an attached chain cap. The center bottle is slightly wider and features a different, finer mesh pattern. All three bottles appear to be in good vintage condition, with the expected patina, minor scratches, and wear to the chrome and metal commensurate with age and use. The interiors are not entirely clear and may contain residual material. The bottle on the left has some visible wear on the aluminum spout, and the right bottle’s chrome is slightly tarnished. H 13.5″ to 14″, W 4.25″ to 4.75″, D 4.25″ to 4.75″. See photos.
