Description
Vintage Brach’s Fine Candies porcelain enamel advertising sign is a stellar example of mid-century candy advertising. Founded in Chicago, Illinois in 1904, Brach’s became an American institution, and this sign, featuring their iconic bold white lettering on a vibrant magenta field, likely dates to the 1940s-1950s era. The long, horizontal format was perfect for mounting over a counter or on a store wall. It is constructed of porcelain enamel on steel, and its high-gloss finish has kept the color remarkably bright. The sign exhibits typical wear expected of a vintage piece, including moderate chipping and rust around all the mounting holes and edges, particularly in the corners, which have exposed the underlying steel. There is some surface scratching and mild fading across the magenta field, and the white lettering has small instances of enamel loss. The back side is a dark green color with visible rust. A classic piece of general store and candy ephemera. H 4.75″, W 41″, D 0.25″
