Description
A classic collection of brass and leather sleigh bells, a sight straight out of a Currier and Ives print. This lot includes two distinct leather straps, each adorned with four graduated bells, likely used on horses to announce their arrival during the winter months. Also included are two lengthy leather straps of smaller brass bells, often referred to as “jingle bells,” which would have been used on a sleigh or a horse’s harness. The bells are a mix of what appears to be brass and bronze, with some displaying a warm, untouched patina while others are a bit shinier, showing signs of cleaning or more recent handling. The leather straps are weathered and dry, showing significant age, cracking, and some missing pieces. Its working condition is unknown and it is being offered as-is. The larger straps with four bells are each approximately 24 inches long. The straps of jingle bells are approximately 5-6 feet in length, and the individual bells are roughly 1 inch in diameter.
