Description

INERT WWI German Model 1917 (M17): Stielhandgranate 17. A distinctive grenade that was used by the Germans in both World Wars, this third version of the Stielhandgranate was implemented during the later stages of World War I. The base of the Stielhandgranate’s handle was redesigned, and a metal cover cap was introduced that protected the porcelain bead and pull cord, allowing it to simply rest freely inside of the handle. The operator pulled the cap off and then pulled the cord as before. This particular example is in stable, relic condition. There is varying levels of corrosion on the metal body and surface oxidation on the base cap. The marble pull cord fuse is present inside and is ofcourse INERT. The head retains a good portion of its original grey-green paint and the belt loop handle is present and in fairly good condition. The wooden handle has an older gouge in it, but the overall surface has an even patina. Stamped on the handle in thicker black font is “27, 12.17” and “5 ½ Sck EPN” in thin font. Dimensions: 14” long x 2.5” diam at head. This is a great “Potato Masher”! Please see photos.
