The John Bannister Collection - D-Day and Militaria
Lot 2286:
Description
Produced by the Zastava Arms factory for the Yugoslavian military, the M48 rifle was produced from 1950 to 1965. Based on the German Mauser K98 design, Yugoslavia used Mauser tooling acquired after World War II to build these rifles. The M48 and its later variants became the standard service rifle of the “Yugoslavs People Army” and it was known as the post war variant of the Mauser K98. This particular rifle is the first version M48 with milled steel parts produced between 1950 to 1952. It features a clean Yugoslavian crest on the receiver, and the receiver, bolt and floor plate have all matching numbers. The bolt and butt plate have a bright finish, common for M48 production. The barrel displays import markings near the muzzle. The elm wood stock is very clean, showing little wear or storage marks and displays the receiver serial number “87077” on the butt. Please see photos for overall condition. S/N: T87077 C&R Eligible
